DESCRIPTION
This project was inspired by the eastern principles and aesthetics. The concept based on the modern interpretation of Japanese architecture together with Zen Buddhism philosophy about what is beauty and what spaces and volumes inspires us for deeper meditation and relaxation within our individual apartments. The materiality used for this project – natural walnut together with grey to black veneer, steel or stone emphasizes the concept of twilight and shadow, lit by the warm silenced lighting – a hint to japanese lanterns and candle lights. The craftsmanship in custom made furniture pieces pays high attention to the details as well as wood working traditions.
On the opposite side of the dining area the living room part is situated. We have designed the unique cnc-milled 3D wall panels which are created using parametric tools. Next to it another important element of this living room can be found – a circular window in Zen has spiritual as well as aesthetic significance, for the full moon symbolizes completion of the lunar cycle and hence enlightenment. This motive was created both – for the philosophical purpose of having a meditational place within the living room as well as a very simple and pragmatic purpose of introducing additional light into quite dark initial interior spaces of this townhouse.
